Re: Brush marks on exterior Farrow & Ball no 16 Grey water based gloss

No matter how good modern water soluble paints are, they can't get the high gloss of oil yet. I think the brush marks are probably technique related. Get yourself a very good, soft, synthetic brush. I still like Proform Blaze a lot though there are other ones on the market that are probably as good ...

Re: Painting a marble fireplace

Re: Ceiling help and advice

Vinyl Silk is a bit "rubbery", one of the reasons it's not advisable to paint Vinyl Matt over vinyl silk. It may get a bit firmer after a day or two, so you can sand the edges of the hole to get rid of the raised edge. Try and use a new bit of fine sandpaper and use a light but fast sanding motion t...

Re: Starting back up

Thanks for your ramble Bill. I think it sounds like you have a pretty good handle on your pricing already, round my way £150 p/day would be about right. As for smaller jobs, you have to be the one making the decision on the pricing, not the customer or other tradesmen. Get what you think is right. G...

Re: Starting back up

No offence intended Bill. And I don't doubt that you've done the experience as well. My guidance would still be get up to speed on what decorators in your area are doing, and work towards setting yourself up in business in the sort of work you want to do. I really don't think I can advise you on wha...

Re: Starting back up

Yeah its dying a death. I was keeping it going because I got traffic to my own site, but even that is drying up. May pack it in, you can only have so many forums, and I'm not the type to keep pushing it forward

Re: Starting back up

Bill.......first of all, 8 x hourly rate = daily rate? I would really encourage you to go and work with/for another painter if you want to get back into it. There are a lot of committed painters out there who have put a lot of time and effort in to getting trained and running a successful business. ...

Re: Paint wont stay on the wall problem?

This is common with acrylics, the wall is sucking the water out of the paint you've just applied. When you go over it with another pass, it picks the paint off again. Paint the wall with an acrylic primer or sealer, or paint with a thinned out coat of Diamond Eggshell, allow to dry the correct time,...
