Assistance with ceiling prep

Post by jlewis74 » Wed Aug 23, 2017 10:20 am

Hi,

My bedroom ceiling is beginning to crack and after further investigation, the plasterboard was covered with wood chip paper and then over the years painted.

The cracking has appeared at the seams.

Is there a way of patching this up rather than getting a plasterer to skim ceiling.

Cracks are caused by movement. Even a plasterer would need to stop the plasterboard moving before skimming the ceiling.
You could put some plasterboard screws into the joists where the movement is, then try and texture it with filler, then paint. It won't look very good, but the alternative is to get all the woodchip off and start again

Thanks, I was going to cut away the area affected and cover with woodchip again, then paint?

Yeah, if there's any more movement it might crack again but should be fine
