Exterior Trim Painting

Post by MattFinish » Wed Jul 10, 2019 5:06 pm

:thumbup1: Hi folks.

Can I just share the process I am following on my exterior trim painting as I’d like to get everyone’s thoughts.

I’m painting some previously painted windows, soffits and fascias on a house. The paint is lightly crazed and powdery in places and therefore needs the usual good prep.

I’ve sanded all the loose paint off (80 grit) and I’m using Zinsser Peel Stop on all the exposed edges and the crazing that remains. I’m then following up with Cover Stain as a spot primer over the exposed wood. Probably overkill I know but I want to do the best job possible.

Next I’m planning to follow up with Sikkens Rubbol Primer Undercoat as I’ve had a couple of jobs fail/crack last year with Johnstone’s Storm Shield. I’ve then got some Sikkens Satura Plus for the final top coats.

What does everyone think?
